NAKED PHOTOS!

Erica Simone
I just found out that there was a photograph artist named Erica Simone. Hopefully her name wasn’t on the list from module 1 and 2 because if so, it’s really embarrassing…. Anyway, her works of photo were listed on the website I go very often. It is one of Korean website and her photos were NAKED!!! According to the article, it said that it is the work of photo taken from her daily life. Such as shopping, mopping street, and riding on motorcycle. The photos were taken from New York, and she started taking naked picture since two years ago. She said, “If we are to live in naked, then we wouldn’t have to spend so much money to lunch a fashion show.” I don’t understand what she meant… anyway, she also said that instead of being just naked and making great pose, she prefer and likes the idea of being natural in the photo by showing her daily things that she does in naked. Does this mean being truthful? Something that is true, meaning something that isn’t intended? INTERESTING…. ^^

Bruce Nauman.

3rd Artist (Bruce Nauman)

As I was researching on this artist, I thought about Griffith artist. He uses very simple neon sign to create art work. By using neon signs, he creates emotions and simple words that is really attractive and strongly puts what he wants to express in the art work. Unlike the Griffith artist, he doesn’t paint or draw using spray paints on the walls, but he uses simple words by neon sign which has meaning of Life, Death, Love, Hate, Pleasure, and pain. Some of his work can feel that it’s too violence and sexual, but in that work it has powerful meanings he wants to express to people. Such as a work called “sex and death,” he wants to show the meaning of fame, power, and how one’s can be failed and be looser. I think Bruce’s art work can be look as simple but it carries strong meaning by creating strong action it catches lots of attention and attractive.

NAM JUNE PAIK!

2nd artist (Nam June Paik, 백남준)
I was surprise to see a Korean name on the list! His art is known as VIDEO ART and it is really creative works. For instance, he has created a robot using several TV’s. He treated this robot as if it were a human being and said that buying a robot is similar to adapting a kid. As you can see in the picture below, his art work is really attractive. One thing I notice as looking at some of his work is that, all of his work has to do with TV. I personally like “garden TV” from his work. It has at least 30 TV’s lying on the tree and he wants to ask from audience are we dealing with a symbiosis of nature and technology, or whether the new media are leading us back into the jungle with their disordered mass of rampant images.  Nam June Paik is really creative artist that gives questions for people to think of as we look at his art work. Can we think of his work as real? Or is it fake, which uses material that is well known to everyone and tries to get attention? Can we really think of something that is relevant to us rather than just think that its interesting or funny?

1st artist! JEFFREY SHAW!

1st artist (Jeffrey Shaw)

I started my project on this section by an artist named Jeffrey Shaw. Why did I choose this artist to begin with? It was because of his most two famous works. One was called “legible city” and the other one was called “water walk.” I thought about the concepts of legible city and water walk. I think it’s really amazed and incredible works he came up with. Audience are seated on a stationary bicycle and ‘move' through streets projected onto the surface in front of them. Isn’t amazing? I think it’s similar to watching a movie at a theater, wearing 3D glass. When I wore 3D glass and watch movie, it felt like I’m part of the actors who performs a great show in the movie. It was more like real and something that is tangible. Now days, we have played at least one choice of game. Think about a game system Wii. It requires several different types of accessories to play with, but people still plays. I personally like Wii system because it is like Jeffrey Shaw concept of art. You can play game as if you are really experiencing a car racing or playing sports with someone else. I think that Jeffrey concept was fully adapted into a Wii system witch capture people attentions. Overall, Jeffrey Shaw is really amazed and incredible artist who came up with the idea of water walk and legible city which truly fits into NEW MEDIA!

IDENTITY 2 PART!!!

I did my identity collage again! I hope this time every one of you should figure out what I’m trying to show and express on my collage poster! I represent myself on collage from past to present. Hope at least one of my class-mate figures out the difference on this collage!

mid-term

Mid-Term on IDENTITY!!!
First of all, I spent twenty dollars on In-N-Out burger and not everyone had it. Number one lesson is that I don’t need to bring food for each one of our group member. Anyway, on this project I really enjoyed doing it. I felt comfortable than first project because I was more into this identity and understand better. One thing I feel bad is that on collage about my identity, I didn’t do it correctly. Just by looking at my poster, everyone should have guess what is representing and meaning, however, I had to explain in details to have our group understand what I did on my collage poster. I’m editing my collage in a better way, so that way everyone should guess what I’m trying to express on my collage poster! Overall, I like our group and lots of fun on this IDENTITY project!!!! ^__________________^

LACMA VISIT

I went to LACMA museum on Saturday with my boyfriend. When I got into museum I was amazed on the size of the museum. I said to my boyfriend, “is this one of theme park?” it caught my attention at first place because of the size of the museum. Sadly, some of the building was closed due to renovation but still I really enjoyed my visit at LACMA. To be honest, I notice there are 6 different building to stop by and I did stop by but I felt that it was similar to Norton Simon Museum. Then what it really captured my attention was when I went into hammer building. At there, looking at some of Korean art refresh my memories to back in the days when I use to live in Korea. For instance, one object (?) named “Dining Table” from joseon period was the one that I use to eat my meals. It is not the exactly the same one from joseon perion but it’s really similar to ones I’ve used. I’m positive most of the Korean family has at least one of the dining tables to eat their meals. I’ll indicate picture of the ones from LACMA and other one where you can easily obtain at Korean super-market.

Then I went into Pavilion for Japanese Art building.

At there I was really irritated with the security lady because she was the fourth person who asked to show our admission ticket!!! Anyway, I thought lot of work was very similar to each other. Then, I saw a Japanese mask which was in some way scary looking and someway looks same as the ones where Korean people used on a certain days to celebrate and eat lots of great food.
Japanese Mask

Korean Mask

what do you guys think about these two mask? is it similr looking? or not?
I remembered when lots of our family would gather into group and wearing these mask and dancing with laughing and smiling on our face. It was one of the traditional events that can be done if we desire to do so. I tried not to, but because I was Asian I was more into Japanese and Korean art. But I did go to see contemporary art and Americas building. It was nice to see some of works from that building but I didn’t really had fun as much as I spent my time at Japanese art building and Hammer building. Overall, it was really awesome except I didn’t get to see the urban light to illuminate the light and the food cost so much to afford!!!! and lastly, Picasso art work is really something.. I mean I've always felt that his art was really hard to explain what it represent but one of the work from Picasso, I finally get to know!!! "weeping Woman with Handkerchief" I knew it has to do with lady and crying and wiping with something!!! I get to know little better on ART!!! yeah!!!!

GEOFFREY BARDON!

Geoffrey Robert Bardon AM was an Australian school teacher who played a large role in the creation of the Aboriginal art of the Western Desert movement. Bardon was born in 1940 and passed away in 2003. Bardon originally studied law at the University of Sydney but eventually switched to his calling card, art. He studied at the National Art School of Sydney as graduated in 1965. He hopped from high school to high school teaching art until 1971 when he took a teaching post at a primary school in Papunya. Papunya is a small indigenous territory in Australia. This led to the start of the Western Desert Painting Movement. One important painting is the Honey Ants painting. This painting is on the side of the school at which Bardon taught. He had encouraged the elders of the village to paint a mural on the side of the school in order to preserve the dreaming, and encase the stories permanently. But his time in Papunya was not all smooth sailing. He had encouraged many aboriginal art to be created and authorities were not pleased with this. Bardon often faced indifference, neglect and criticisms from government departments towards his work. He worked closely with the Aboriginal painters who became the founders of the papunya painting movement during 1971 to 1973, and devoted many years after this to documenting and promoting the Aboriginal art he so admired. For his life achievements and influence on aboriginal art, Bardon was made a member of the Order of Australia in 1988 and that is why he has the AM after his name.

Honey Ants- this is the painting on the side of the school that Bardon encouraged the elders of the village to paint a mural. It showed the men that they had something of value to offer to the world.

contemporary aboriginal art

indigenous Australian Art

contemporary Indigenous Australian art is part of the oldest continuing tradition of painting in the world. Jeoffrey had encourged elders to use Western materials such as acrylic paint to paint traditional designs as a way of expressing themselves spiritually. He felt that the sale of this work could give the artists economic freedom and bring Indigenous art to the attention of the wider community.

MY IDENTITY!!!

Who am I? I’m an Asian girl and 24 years old. I’m currently student from Cypress College. There are several ways to identify myself. To start, there is my family on left side. They’re the most important aspect on my life. Without them I’m nothing but an Asian girl. My mother is really supportive and sweetest person in the world. She has raised me up and took care of me and always there for me when I needed. Also, my only sister I have was my friend and mother to me. When my mother was out for work she took care of me. There are few other family members in the picture. One, my grandfather, he was very strict man and very Asian stylist person. He was so strict that younger’s would always respect elders and not to call elders by they’re name. Also, women in our family member had curfew time. In Korea usually parents are strict to their child and even abuse them if needed. I think this is one of the cultures that have to be adapted. I was told from my parent that out of 15 grandchildren he has, he adores me a lot. He saved the candies and chocolate’s inside his closet and often gave to me. And there is my cousin and my aunt in the picture. Our families are really big but out of many family members I really loved my mom, sister, dad, and grandfather. Without them I’m probably not living in this world, meaning no identity to share. Secondly, there are some of my friends. When I moved to American I had no friends to hang out. It was because of my poor English skills. Then a year later on I finally had friends to hang out. I think since I moved from Korea to American I considered my life as second life. And because they share my second part of life, they’re really meaningful to me and friends who can identify myself and introduce to others. Thirdly, there are prints of my hand and foot. I think it is the simplest prints that can identify who I’m. Even when a child is born the first thing that nurses will do is to take prints for the baby. So I think without any further explanation my prints are most logical and proven identity. Lastly, it is not shown on my collage but I’ll indicate some of Korean culture and my foods. I loved to take any COMMENTS!!! ^^

how do you think about drinking culture? does anyone of you want to try drink in Korea? hahahahah

most important part!!!! know how to BOW!!! if not... parents can scold you!!! darn.... I was one of that person... always forget how to bow correctly... hate new years day... I still have to bow even if I'm living in U.S.A!!!! isnt that awful???

I think this included lot of Korean culture, foods, and tradition stuff!!!
I hope it wasnt boring and basically this explain my identiy!!! it shows my favorite food and the traditionl cloth I have to where in special days. lastly, that is the house I was raised. hahahah... Can you imagine living in a house where bathroom is outside of the house? not everyone had to live in a house like that!!! usually people who lived in countryside had to live in a house like that! I was one of them!!!

"BEAUTY LIES"

03-02-2011 Lecture!
Today, we talked more about beauty. Is it sensible? Is it attractive? Today, I’ve discovered that often times beauty lies. Like the film we watch on Hamlet. He quoted “beauty lies.” His uncle was having party with smiling on his face, laughing, and enjoying. Hamlet knew that it’s fake beauty looking because he killed Hamlet’s father and steal his throne. I think sometimes beauty do lie. It may look beautiful and good looking, but who know? Maybe it isn’t just the way it looks. What about wearing make-ups? Can this be considered to be lie beauty? It’s not natural, right? Often times, girls wear make-ups to look pretty and look better. That’s like creating beauty. Is only natural beauty is considered to be a real beauty?
